This was a tough friendly fixture against League 1 opposition. Halse battled hard to secure the draw and probably finished the stronger of the teams.
Tigers racked up the chances throughout the game, choosing to shoot on sight, but the resolute back line, with special mention of Silman (CB) and Giles (GK) did their best to keep them at arms length, and limit the really good shooting opportunities to a minimum.
This was also an opportunity for both teams to experience the full size pitch and goals, and had to be on their guard to avoid fouls and foul throws.
Tigers 1 goal came from a flowing move down their left flank as a ball into the box was missed by the Halse defence, and left 2 strikers free to take the chance for 1:0 after 10 minutes.
Halse came under increasing pressure, but Tigers were unable to break through.
At the other end Halse breaks were efficiently blocked out by the Tigers' defence, and Halse were never really able to release their strike threat.
However, Halse are nothing if not persistent. The boys kept going throughout, they stuck to their methods and the determination finally paid off in the 71st minute. As Haskins was bundled over within shooting range, the Halse defence pushed forwards. Tigers were watching the advancing players, but Capel fooled them all, by sending the free kick low and into the corner of the net away from the despairing dive of the Tigers' keeper for 1:1.
This seemed to lift the confidence of the Halse team, who went in search of a winner, but also had to be mindful of the quick counter attack.
In the end, neither team was able to break the deadlock and the teams finished all square.
Stats show the efficiency of the Halse attack with a single shot on target (3 in all) bringing the success, vs the much higher shot count of 25 for Winslow.
Coach Capel was very proud of the performance his team put in and looked forward, confidently into the final fixtures of this campaign with every player stepping their levels up again. More of the same will be needed next year....
