Halse United First Team 'v' Daventry Town Reserves - Les Underwood Junior Cup - Saturday 18th January 2025

Third time lucky and after a pitch inspection on Friday it was game on.

Halse last faced Daventry back in August and came away losing 3-1 in the Byfield & Bethal Cup.

Halse started so strong striker Read was already through on goal in opening minutes but was flagged off side. Then just on 4 minutes Kinner is slotted in down the left by full back Ralph iwth his back to goal. Kinner spins the RB on the edge of the box , drives in and slots it home far post.

Halse bright start continues and just 7 minutes later Halse double their lead. The ball is recycled by Summers out wide, whips it far post to Read and Read does what he does best knocks it back across goal to head home.

Another chance for the black and white on 15 minutes when Gilsenan picks up the ball in the middle of the park, turns left and fires it over to Read. Read gets onto the long ball, attempts to lob the Daventry keeper who gets a good hand onto it.
Daventry get a free kick on the edge of the Halse box which brings Matthews into action. A lovely free kick heading for the top corner sees Matthews spring across the goal to claw the ball away.
Were 34 minutes in now and Halse hit the Daventry net again. Ralph wins the ball back in the Halse half and sprays the ball down the left wing to Read. Read drives into the box and calmly slots the ball in at the back post.

Following this third goal for Halse the Daventry Manager makes a double substitution with 2 and 7 off and 4 and 14 are on.
Final minutes of what has been a very impressive performance from the black and white. Daventry attack down the right and get in behind the Halse defence. A shot at Matthews beats him but the italian defender Salvatore is back on the line to clear the ball away not the first time either that Salvatore has done this season.
Into added time and Read is released down the left again and drives into the Daventry box. Read cuts it back this time Summers in the 6 yard box who latches onto the ball but liazes it over the Daventry bar.

More substitutions for Daventry as they try to get back into the game. However on 56 minutes Halse are at it again when they win the ball high up the pitch and Read takes a shot outside the box straight at the Daventry keeper. The keeper fumbles the ball into Ali Sakouhis path for him to tap home his first Halse goal.

Ten minutes later Halse continue to play some lovely football and its down the left hand side again, which has been the problem for Daventry all game. Read gets in behind, lays it into Ali Sakouhi, who sets Summers and rifles the ball top right.

Substitution with forward Ali Sakouhi making way for Williams.
On 82 minutes Halse lose their clean sheet opportunity with a goal mouth scramble and Daventry scramble the ball into the Halse net for a consolation goal.
Halse United 5-1 Daventry
On 85 minutes its another sloppy goal to concede for Halse, Daventry run through the middle of the pitch and slot the ball past Matthews at near post.
