Byfield & Bethel Cup Final - Sunday 5th April 2026 - 12pm - Woodford United FC

The boys travelled over to Woodford Halse on Easter Sunday to face Easington Development in this Byfield and Bethel Cup Final. This was not the first time the black and white have made it to the final of this competition.

The pitch as always was immaculate and added to the excitement of the cup final.

Halse United started with the usual 4-3-3 formation and with most players now back the squad was looking very strong.

The match kicked off at 11.58am.

Just 1 minute in and not the start the black and white wanted. Easington capitalised on when the number 9 gets round Hamblin on the right, whips the ball in, which is met by the Easington striker at the back post and places into the Halse net.

An early forced substitution with Halse removing the skipper on just 11 minutes which was not what the lads wanted or needed. Then there was another forced substitution with the Halse striker also being removed on 34 minutes.

On 36 minutes the black and white get a chance down the right with Capstick who whips in a dangerous ball to back post and Read brings it under control and smashes the outside of the Easington post.

Half time is just minutes away and Halse know they need to score before the whistle goes. Then on 41 minutes Halse get a penalty from a corner when Halse defender Brady is wiped out from behind for a clear penalty. So as always Purnell steps up and thumps the ball into the top right of the Easington net to equalise. Purnell retains his 100% penalty record.

Another substitution just before half time with wide forward Read being removed for Ferraro.

Second half gets underway at 12.58 and Purnell is substituted for Paine.

First booking in the game goes Easington way with a yellow card for Easington number 4 wiping out Kinner on the edge of the Easington box.

On 57 minutes Halse get their second penalty when Capstick beats the on rushing Easington keeper to the ball and is bought down. With Purnell off Mortimer stands up to take the penalty and goes down the middle but the keeper's trailing leg keeps the ball out.

Substitutions on 60 and 64 with Mortimer and Ferraro off and Read and De'ath back on.

On 69 minutes Halse finally take the lead when the Halse keeper Mickley goes long and the Easington number 4messes up his header back to keeper which Capstick gets onto the loose ball over the keeper and taps it home into an empty net.

Another yellow card this time for Halse Capstick for kicking the ball away after the whistle.

The second half is coming to an end and on 88 minutes on the counter KInner whips the ball into Capstick who brings the ball down, rounds the keeper and taps it home.
