Match Report: Tattenhoe Reds U16 2–4 Halse United U16
(Final Pre‑Season Friendly – Away – 8th September 2026)
Halse United U16s rounded off their pre‑season schedule with a 4–2 win away at Tattenhoe Reds, a result that showed plenty of promise but also highlighted areas that will need sharpening ahead of Sunday’s County Cup tie at Roade FC.
Halse started brightly and took control almost immediately. After just 7 minutes, Alex Bogdan opened the scoring with a composed finish following clever link‑up play with Jaden Elmer, who provided the assist. Three minutes later, Halse doubled their lead when Alfie Lovelock struck cleanly from close range, assisted by Bogdan who was heavily involved in everything positive early on.
Despite dominating possession throughout the first half, Halse couldn’t convert that control into further goals. Several promising moves broke down in the final third, and the boys will know they should have tested the Tattenhoe keeper far more given how much of the ball they had.
The second half began with more Halse pressure, and on 55 minutes, Luis Ward made it 3–0 after good work from Ethan Bevan, who delivered the assist with a smart pass into the box. Just thirteen minutes later, George McDonald added a fourth, finishing confidently at the back post after Alfie Lovelock corner.
At 4–0, the game looked comfortable — but two late lapses allowed Tattenhoe Reds to pull goals back in the 74th and 80th minutes . Those moments will frustrate the coaching team, especially given how little defending Halse had been forced to do for most of the match.
Still, there were positives: strong phases of possession, good movement, and standout performances across the pitch. Riley Stokes earned Star Player for his contribution and work rate throughout the game.
But the message is clear — Halse must be more clinical. Dominating the ball is one thing; turning that dominance into goals is another. Against a Division 3 side, the lads created enough chances to put the game out of sight far earlier, and they’ll need to be sharper in front of goal when they travel to Roade FC on Sunday.
The County Cup demands a higher level of intensity, concentration, and ruthlessness. If Halse want to progress to the next round, they’ll need to raise their standards — take their chances, stay switched on, and play with the same confidence but greater purpose.
A good win, a good workout, and a clear reminder: Sunday will require more.
